Green thumbs love vegetables, and this card has some right on the cover. What’s more, when you buy this card you’ll help a South African community beat malnutrition by planting a plot of beetroots, spinach, carrots, onions and potatoes.
In South Africa, the Hluhluwe Advent Crèche started in 1995 as a soup kitchen for malnourished children, some of whom were HIV positive. Its main goal is to help community members in need, especially children and the terminally ill, ensure they are able to access basic healthcare and live a productive life. By providing training, seedlings and a watering can, Oxfam Australia helps the crèche provide services and fresh vegetables to around 300 children on a daily basis.
“I make a living by ploughing in the garden, and then what I get, I sell. It has benefited the family because I’ve been able to deal with the issue of hunger, I have been able to feed my kids.” Nesta Phakathi, South Africa.
