How does this gift help?

Oxfam is a proud supporter of the Fitzroy Stars — a Melbourne-based Aboriginal sporting club. As well as promoting health and fitness through their netball team, the club helps encourage positive parenting, creates in-roads to employment and education and serves as a friendly, supportive meeting place. For women who might be otherwise isolated, the club gives them the opportunity to get together regularly with other women, become more involved in community life and develop confidence and self-esteem. Along the way, they generate mutual support, hope and inspiration within the Melbourne Koori community.

“It’s about creating a healthy lifestyle for the whole community, not just the blokes. It gives the kids something to work towards. My dad played for the Fitzroy Stars [football team]. I’d like my daughters to be a part of it when they grow up.” Lisa Thorpe, Fitzroy Stars netball player and trainer, Australia.
