After a disaster like a tsunami or an earthquake, many people lose everything. In these sorts of extreme conditions, a durable blanket can become essential for survival. So go on — give a card that provides warmth and shelter. They’ll be wrapped.

How does this gift help?

In emergencies, Oxfam responds quickly to provide life-saving essentials, like blankets, to people who have lost everything.

In 2011, 6 million people in Pakistan were affected by monsoonal flooding. Oxfam launched an emergency response to assist those affected by the floods, delivering blankets and clean water to two of the hardest hit areas of Sindh province. We increased the supply of clean water and sanitation supplies to nearly 850,000 people, helped them gain access to food and carried out rescue operations in several areas. We are now developing projects to help people earn a living again and get back on their feet.

“Blankets may not seem like an essential item in an emergency. But they can have a life-saving effect as they bring warmth and reassurance to people who have lost everything.” Richard Young, Humanitarian Support Manager, Oxfam Australia.
