Some gifts are more meaningful than others. This is one of those. Buy this card and some refugee kids in South Africa will receive toys and educational materials that will help them get a better start in life.
The Educare Starter Kit includes toys, crayons, playdough, paint, brushes, food vouchers, bedding and hygiene supplies. These kits are used to start new Educare centres in the Durban refugee community. In Durban, refugees live in overcrowded, poorly maintained buildings, with high levels of crime and a high rate of child abuse and neglect. Refugee Social Services provides access to daycare and education, as well as training opportunities for marginalised refugee women. This work provides women and children with protection and safety.
“I look after seven children ranging in ages from two years to five years. I love children – I take care of them like my own ... I teach them, I give them love … We do activities all day – we give them time to play, and they have breakfast; we do colouring, painting, all activities. In the morning they eat, they have lunch, learn and have time to play. After lunch, they have a sleep.” Nusula Kajumba, edu-carer, Sub-Sahara Day Care Creche, Durban, South Africa.
