This really is the gift where those of us with a lot can help those with a little. Across southern Africa, AIDS is robbing millions of children of their parents. This gift will pay for servings of food for these orphans, and help fund the crèches that look after these kids. What an incredible gift that is.
Hluhluwe Advent Crèche was started as a “soup kitchen” for vulnerable, malnourished and often HIV positive children. The crèche was a community-based response to both the growing number of children not receiving adequate nutrition, and the rapid increase of HIV cases in the area. The organisation’s vision is to ensure that the most vulnerable members of their community have access to the quantity and quality of food that supports their wellbeing.
“I come to school without eating at home so I like that I get some food here at school. I don’t eat before coming to school, so the meals here at school help very much. All the knowledge I have gained by working in the garden at school, I take back home and teach my other family members – things like saving water and using organic fertiliser on the vegetables.” Sduduzo Mazibuko, 12, South Africa.
