Just like that little black dress you have to have, ducks are an essential item. The gift of ducks helps families in Mozambique by providing eggs, which in turn produce more ducks, and eggs, and of course they can then also be sold to create an income. So our feathered friends are not only practical, they make financial sense too.
These ‘cool’ ducks are flipping poverty ‘the bird’ as they help families in Mozambique with eggs that they can eat and sell at the market. Many of the people who receive a duck are carers for family members, orphans or vulnerable children affected by HIV and AIDS. “The distribution of ducks to vulnerable households provides an alternative source of income and an improved diet. The result creates access to cash to pay for schooling and health costs, and leads to better nutritional outcomes.” Charmaine Cônsul Gonçalves, Mozambique Coordinator, Oxfam Australia
