With this amazing gift, you can support Wan Smolbag Theatre in Vanuatu. In their youth centres, Wan Smolbag uses drama and other fun techniques like cooking and music lessons to engage with Vanuatu’s young people. They then have a safe place to learn about reproductive health issues and HIV prevention and access to free health clinics.
Wan Smol Bag started in 1989 in Vanuatu as a way of using community theatre and radio to convey messages about health issues, such as HIV and AIDS awareness and reproductive health. The group’s name “Wan Smol Bag” means “one small bag” in the local Bislama language. With one small bag of costumes, they started to tour the region educating nurses, teachers and theatre groups about how they can use drama to address a range of social issues. “I didn’t realise how useful and protective it was to use condoms before the Wan Smol Bag peer educators came to my area ...” 20-year-old male participant of Wan Smol Bag workshop, Port Vila, Vanuatu
